Jack is our Jeep Renegade Trailhawk — the genuine off-road version, not the soft-roader. He has proper four-wheel drive with low-range gearing, raised ground clearance and hill-descent control, and a rooftop tent that folds out in a couple of minutes.
The appeal is simple: you sleep up off the ground, dry and away from the damp, but you can still take forest tracks, rough farm approaches and boggy festival fields that would strand a campervan. Park him in a normal parking space, take him down a single-track lane, and pitch almost anywhere.
He suits couples and solo travellers on shorter, more adventurous trips — Scotland's NC500, Snowdonia, the Lakes, or a long weekend chasing surf.
